CFIR Weather Cancellation Policy — Charleston, SC
Severe Weather & Safety Policy (Charleston Area)
Because Charleston is a coastal city with unique weather risks, CFIR maintains a flexible weather cancellation policy that prioritizes safety.
Cancellation fees will be waived when any of the following conditions apply:
- National Weather Service (NWS) issues a tropical storm or hurricane watch or warning affecting Charleston County
- Local or state authorities issue:
- Evacuation orders
- Flood warnings
- Travel advisories
- Charleston County schools or government offices are closed due to weather
- Road flooding, bridge closures, or unsafe driving conditions make travel unsafe
Clients are encouraged to use their own judgment, particularly given Charleston’s vulnerability to:
- Sudden flooding
- Bridge access limitations
- Storm surge
- Rapid weather escalation
When weather conditions interfere with in-person sessions, CFIR will make reasonable efforts to:
- Offer telehealth sessions, or
- Reschedule without penalty
Missed appointments without communication and not related to weather conditions remain subject to CFIR’s standard cancellation policy.
We appreciate timely communication whenever possible so we can support both client safety and clinician schedules.
Hurricane Season
Hurricane Season Protocol:
During named storms, tropical systems, or forecasted flooding events, CFIR may proactively shift sessions to telehealth or cancel in-person sessions in advance. Clients will be notified via email or text if practice-wide adjustments are made.
